In 2025, ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) has become central to how companies operate, attract investment, and comply with evolving regulations. Mexico has enacted its first <strong>Sustainability Reporting Standards (NIS)<\/strong>, aligning with global frameworks like <strong>IFRS S1 and S2<\/strong>. Across the region, pressure is mounting to report, measure, and act on ESG issues. Drawing from my experience in compliance systems and governance implementation, this post explores what\u2019s changing, what challenges remain, and how ESG can become a source of competitive advantage.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-32ccd28 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"32ccd28\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-9b0a258 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"9b0a258\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">\ud83e\uddfe Mexico 2025: New ESG Standards in Force<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-821c5ee e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"821c5ee\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-0edc410 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"0edc410\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>On <strong>May 13, 2024<\/strong>, Mexico\u2019s <strong>CINIF<\/strong> (Financial and Sustainability Reporting Standards Board or &#8220;<em>Consejo Mexicano de Normas de Informaci\u00f3n Financiera<\/em>&#8221; in Spanish) published its first two sustainability standards:<\/p><ul><li><p><strong>NIS A-1<\/strong>: Establishes the conceptual framework for ESG reporting.<\/p><\/li><li><p><strong>NIS B-1<\/strong>: Requires disclosure of <strong>30 Basic Sustainability Indicators (IBSO)<\/strong> across environmental, social, and governance dimensions.<\/p><\/li><\/ul><p>These standards are mandatory as of <strong>January 1, 2025<\/strong>, with early adoption permitted. While some exceptions apply in the first year, the expectations will become increasingly rigorous.
