If you are an expatriate living in Mexico and over 60 years old, you can obtain a Mexico Senior Benefits Card, commonly known as INAPAM card.

The National Institute for Senior People issues the card (in Spanish, “Instituto Nacional de las Personas Adultas Mayores” or “INAPAM”), which is a branch of the Mexican federal government.

How to get it

To get the INAPAM card, the senior has to personally go to the local INAPAM office, file a form, and submit the following documents:

  1. Two copies of temporal or permanent residency card.
  2. Two copies of CURP number.
  3. Two copies of passport.
  4. Two copies of proof of address (power, water, phoner, or cable utility bill not older than two months).
  5. Name and phone number of a direct family member to contact in case of emergency.
  6. Two recent small (2.5 x 3 cms) color photographs (this size in Mexico is known as “infantil”). Frontal photograph, without glasses or hats, wearing a white shirt.

Benefits of the INAPAM Card

Hundreds of shops, restaurants, offices, and services offer discounts and promos for seniors all around the Country.

Some government benefits in Baja California Sur include:

Permits and Taxes

1 1

50% off water bill

3 1

50% off driver's license

4 1

50% off car plates

notebook, iPhone, pen, pencil, computer mouse, glasses

50% property tax

You can find the complete benefits list here: https://www.gob.mx/inapam/acciones-y-programas/beneficios-test (in Spanish), yet many not listed stores offer discounts when showing the card.

Once you have your card, I advise that you show it at every opportunity.
Unfortunately, some stores that have discounts for seniors do not advertise it.
